Irene est Maître de Conférences en Psychologie et Neurosciences du Développement à l’Université Paris Cité. Suite à des études de Biologie (Université de Pavie, Italie) et de Neurosciences Cognitives (University College London, Royaume-Uni), elle a obtenu en 2013 un doctorat en Neurosciences Cognitives, sous la direction de Franck Ramus (Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris) et Ghislaine Dehaene-Lambertz (NeuroSpin, Saclay). Grâce à une bourse post-doctorale Marie Curie, elle a continué son parcours de recherche à l’Université de Genève (Suisse), dans le laboratoire de Daphné Bavelier, puis à NeuroSpin, Saclay.
Ses travaux s’articulent autour de la variabilité interindividuelle dans le contexte de l’apprentissage, avec un intérêt particulier pour l’acquisition de la lecture. L’objectif de ses recherches est d’élucider les corrélats cognitifs et neuraux de l’apprentissage et de ses troubles, afin de pouvoir développer des stratégies d’entraînement adaptées. Dans ce contexte, Irene mène des études aussi bien comportementales qu’en neuro-imagerie fonctionnelle et anatomique, chez l’adulte ainsi qu’au cours du développement de l’enfant.
